The Cicada is free to sing.

Thought I would share a few pics of a Cicada breaking free in my yard.

Some Cicada info.

It wouldn't be summer without the buzzing song of the Cicada in the air.

Taste of The Wild - Pacific Stream Canine Formula Review

As I wrote a few days ago about a food that tremendously helped with Mayhem’s digestion and allergies, here is the grain free dog  food I was referring to. Taste of The Wild - Pacific Stream Canine Dry Formula.

Within days of changing Mayhem over to this food  I saw his shedding decline, a shiny coat and even digestion was improving. After two weeks those ailments were a thing of the past.

I attribute the positive changes to two factors.

  1. Grain free
  2. Quality Ingredients

Grain Free

In my research to define why Mayhem was having digestion and allergies problems related to the dog food he was eating, over and over I came across the grains used in dog food and the instances of allergies. Taste of the Wild Pacific is grain free, removing the very ingredients that were causing the problems.

Quality Ingredients

The real winner for me in choosing this food was the quality ingredients that aid in health and proper digestion.
  • Made with real roasted meats
  • Supplemented with fruits and vegetables
  • delivers natural antioxidants to protect

Take a look.

Salmon, ocean fish meal, sweet potatoes, potatoes, canola oil, salmon meal, smoked salmon, potato fiber, natural flavor, salt, choline chloride, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, yucca schidigera extract, dried fermentation products of Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus plantarum, dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, niacin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin D supplement, folic acid.

Protein: 25% Fat: 15%
Calories: 3,600 kcal/kg (360 kcal/cup)
Available in 5lb, 15lb and 30lb bags.

Other Formulas
Taste of the Wild does have two other formulas to choose from.

Wetlands Canine Formula with Roasted Wild Fowl Dry Dog Food

All three formulas also come in the canned version.

Since Mayhem had such a delicate stomach, I chose the Pacific Stream for the Fish base and lower protein content of the three formulas.

The real bonus to this food is that Mayhem loves the taste and I plan to introduce him to the other formulas in the future.

I have seen great results in this formula and would highly recommend it.

Give it a try.

Fun ways of keeping a dog cool

Since it is going to be a really warm one over this Fourth of July weekend, I was looking around for fun ways to keep Mayhem cool.
Next thing I know I came across this really cool dog blog called The Days of Johann and found these really fun videos of dogs keeping cool as only dogs can.

Fun stuff!

The dog food change that got Mayhem on the right track with his allergies.

All that scratching had Mayhem in misery, not to mention the ten trips outside in the middle of the night due to his upset stomach.
Of course we took him to the vet and were given a sales pitch on some fancy $60 prescription dog food that may help. I declined and went to researching what may be causing Mayhem's dog allergies and digestion problems. A common theme I encountered was all the fillers and grain products in all the so called top brands, including the prescription brand, were allergy triggers.

To make a long story short, I found a grain free Salmon/ Sweet Potato based dog food that in two weeks had his coat soft and shiny and all digestive problems a thing of the past.

In future posts I will get deeper into the various brands of grain free dog food, their ingredients, and how they are closer to a diet dogs were designed to eat.

Thanks for reading.
